I've had a couple of days to myself which has been much needed. I think I'm gonna get into the habit of waking up (coffee already made), making a little something in the kitchen, and heading into the living room or music room, whichever room I feel like (ok?) and reading. That is how a day should begin! Anything else and my day is off to a rough start. For instance, waking up and rushing out the door to be at work at 7:00AM...Not my idea of living if you ask me.
So this morning I did just that and it felt great. Got up. Coffee. Eggs. Toast. War & Peace. I'm a huge reader and especially of Russian Literature. There is something about the language (translated into English of course) that hits me every time. Whether it's Dostoyevsky, Chekov, or Tolstoy, the romanticism that wraps itself around the characters, which are some of the best ever created by pen, is just amazing. Since War & Peace is just under a thousand pages I am giving myself a deadline. I think 20-30 pages a day will keep me going at a good pace. After I finish this I'll probably take it easy with some good, maybe even comical fiction...like the Bible.
Headed over to JJ's Market to get some work done on the ol' computer since we have yet to get internet at our house. I kind of like it like that. It gets me out of the house. Met up with one of my oldest friends Lindsey Jones. The funny thing about our friendship is that we are both from Kansas City, both moved to Nashville at about the same time (eight or so years ago), have a lot in common (and a lot not in common) and yet we have seen each other maybe three times in the last, oh I don't know, five years. But what never ceases to amaze me are those friends in your life that no matter how long it's been since you've seen them, you don't have to do any catching up. It just is what it is. You know each other. Done. Simple. Maybe that's what a good friend is defined by. Works for me.
Today also marked the beginning of Mix Week for the new record (or whatever it's going to end up being) that we started LAST year in L.A. with none other than Justin Glasco, the man that kick-started Amy Winehouse's career, gave Whitney Houston her big break, wrote all the hit songs that you hear Taylor Swift sing and produced the latest Justin Hulsey project....I may have exaggerated a few of these claim-to-fame points...maybe all of them, except for the latter of course. So far the mixes are sounding great. I couldn't be more eager to get it out there into everybody's hands, ears, car stereos, iPods...really anywhere people listen to their tunes. Let us just say I'm excited. Nice work Glasco.
So onto the rest of the evening. Maybe more reading. Definitely gonna go over some tunes. And then Dexter...I love Dexter.
Later.
